Colorful Business Idioms
1、 红色 Red
红色是我国文化中的基本崇尚色，它体现了中国人在精神和物质上的追求。但运用在Business English中的Red含义有变哦~
In the red… losing money, unprofitable 赤字
l The company’s budget dipped into the red with the increase in oil prices.
l Most companies operate in the red initially before turning a profit later.
2、 黑色 Black
古代黑色为天玄，原来在中国文化里只有沉重的神秘之感，是一种庄重而严肃的色调，它的象征意义由于受西方文化的影响而显得较为复杂，象征严肃、正义。
What about black color in business English?
In the black… successful, a profit盈利
l After a difficult first quarter, the company is finally in the black again.
3、 绿色 Green
绿在五色中排行第一，象征着万物生长。绿通常给人的感觉是清丽恬静的，古人由此联想到青春韶光。
人们生活中也很喜欢看到“绿光”, 比如红绿灯Traffic lights中的green light.
那么商务英语中“green light”具体怎么运用呢？
The green light … give permission to go ahead 允许，许可
l Our boss gave us the green light to begin working on the new project.
l We should check with marketing to see if we have the green light on this.
对比一下，Red light具有相反的用意
Red light… stop 停止
l The boss red lighted the project after it suffered several setbacks.
l After severe budget cuts, the company was forced to give the new research project the red light.
4. 灰色 Gray
“曾经以为这个世界只有黑、白， 然而许多人不知道，黑与白之间还有别的色彩。”

In black and white… clear, defined清晰，明确
l Our company refused to deal with the customers’ complaints until they saw them in black and white.
l The black and white of it is that we only have two choices on this issue.

l With the amount of gray area on this project, I’m not really sure where to begin.

George: Really? I figured after all the red ink the last project caused, this one was doomed to be red lighted indefinitely.
